January 13, 2000

Ingham County Genealogy Society Meeting Minutes for Thursday, January 13, 2000

24 members and two guests were present at tonight's regular monthly meeting.
Our guests were Erica Childs, niece of Cynthia Grostick and Carol Callard, this evening's speaker.

Two new memberships were received since our December meeting. John H. Bennett, Granite Bay, California and Sue Hinton, Coupeville, Washington.
President, Sam Pardee, called meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.

A motion to accept last month's minutes was made by Tammy Parsons and seconded by Lynne Castle.

Our president, Sam Pardee, introduced our evening's speaker, Carol Callard from the Library of Michigan. Carol is very informed on the resources located at the Library and explained what some of the topics consisted of and how to put them to use in researching.

John reported on our project of filming the Ingham County Democrat and explained that we will take $1,500 from our account and we are hoping to get the other $1,500 from the Mid-Michigan Genealogy Society to make the $3,000 needed to film the papers. The project is a very fragile job, due to the condition and age of the papers and he is asking any member that can help prepare these papers for filming to get in touch with him. It sometimes takes ironing one sheet at a time to get the wrinkles out, but it is well worth the time.

Barbara Smith said we have over 100 new volumes of the Ingham County newspapers in the newspaper room. She also passed out certificates for our "Adopt a book" project to Sam Pardee and others.

Joyce Darrow brought a few new books from our research room to show us. Some of them were: The History of the Lansing Police by Pat Hiyden, The beginning of Okemos, A listing of Mason Business Men and 1825-1847 Northern Lansing.

Tammy Parsons suggested that we use next month's meeting as a workshop for the many projects our Research Room is working on. By bringing the things to the meeting, members that are unable to be at the Library when the projects are being done, get an opportunity to help. It was agreed by all that this would be great.

Meeting was ended at 9:00 P.M.

Margie Griffin, Secretary
